91´óÉñ opened its 2004 Old Dominion Athletic Conference schedule by splitting two matches at home. The Lady Royals defeated Hollins University 3-2 and fell to Guilford College 3-1. Guilford also defeated Hollins 3-1.
91´óÉñ improves to 1-10 on the season, 1-1 in conference play. Guilford is now 4-7, 2-1 in the ODAC, while Hollins is 0-5 and 0-2 in the ODAC.
In the opening match, Guilford defeated 91´óÉñ by game scores of 30-26, 30-28, 22-30, and 30-26. Senior Mackenzie Parsio narrowly missed a double-double for the Quakers, recording a game-high 18 kills and nine digs. Junior Mandy Myers had 17 kills while senior Rhonda Rogers had 21 digs. Sophomore Lisa Berry and freshman Courtney Miller each had double-doubles for 91´óÉñ. Berry had 16 kills and 16 digs, while Miller had 12 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Kara Stoltzfus had 20 digs for 91´óÉñ. 91´óÉñ committed 17 service errors.
In match two, Guilford defeated Hollins by game scores of 29-31, 30-21, 30-21, and 30-23. Mackenzie again took high kill honors with 23 along with six digs and five solo blocks. Myers had 18 kills. Rogers accumulated 24 digs. Junior Rebekah Cocke had a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs for Hollins. Sophomore Laura Dittmar added 12 kills and nine digs. Hollins had 15 service errors.
91´óÉñ defeated Hollins by game scores of 28-30, 30-16, 30-21, 19-30, and 15-10 to close out the day�s action. Berry had 11 kills and 20 digs for her second double-double of the day. Freshman Amanda Morris also had a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs. Cocke had 15 kills and nine digs while Dittmar had seven kills and 12 digs. 91´óÉñ had 18 service aces. Hollins committed 16 errors on serves. The next match for the Lady Royals will be Wednesday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m. when they host Bridgewater College.
