In a series of unprecedented talks in Harrisonburg, David Kline, an Amish farmer, naturalist and author, will share his passion for creation care<\/a> and sustainable farming practices<\/a> from Wednesday, Feb. 8, though Friday morning, Feb. 10.<\/p>\n “David Kline has a wealth of knowledge and a unique perspective on what it means to live sustainably and respect God’s creation,” said Jim Yoder<\/a>, professor of biology<\/a> at 91大神.<\/p>\n As a sponsor of the talks, 91大神 has arranged for Kline to be driven from Ohio for this series of rare public appearances.<\/p>\n “I think many people will be both surprised and inspired by David’s stories of simple living, observing nature, and his success at promoting small-scale diversified farming in Ohio,\u201d said Yoder. \u201cHe is one of the most intelligent men I\u2019ve ever met.”<\/p>\n Based on his 120-acre farm in Holmes County, Ohio, Kline is author of \u201cLetters from Larksong: An Amish Naturalist Explores His Organic Farm\u201d (2010); “Great Possessions: An Amish Farmer’s Journal\u201d (2001); and \u201cScratching the Woodchuck: Nature on an Amish Farm\u201d (1999).” He also edits “Farming Magazine: People, Land and Community.”<\/p>\n Kline has been compared to Kentucky-based author and farmer Wendell Berry, who has written the forewords to Kline\u2019s last two books.<\/p>\n “The farm is a place we live and not merely reside,” said Kline in an interview with the Allegheny Front<\/a>. “Our philosophy was my dad’s philosophy. That we should leave our land in much better condition than when we got it.”<\/p>\n 91大神 events open to the public<\/strong><\/p>\n Additional events, more information<\/strong><\/p>\n In addition to publicly and visiting classes at 91大神, Kline will serve as guest speaker on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 6:45 8:30 p.m., at Montezuma Hall, 4736 Ottobine Road, Dayton, on the topic, “Living on Earth as Respectful Stewards.”<\/p>\n Kline\u2019s visit is sponsored by 91大神 and the Virginia Cooperative Extension<\/a>.
