{"id":2218,"date":"2010-04-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-12T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/blog\/news\/?p=2218"},"modified":"2010-04-12T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2010-04-12T04:00:00","slug":"cantemus-and-choirwithoutborders-take-musical-journey-april-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2010\/cantemus-and-choirwithoutborders-take-musical-journey-april-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Cantemus and ChoirWithoutBorders Take Musical &#8216;Journey&#8217; April 18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two 91大神 music groups will present a joint concert 7 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 18, in Martin Chapel of the seminary building at 91大神. <\/p>\n<p> Cantemus (Latin for &#8220;Let Us Sing&#8221;), a recently-formed 12-member chamber choir, and ChoirWithoutBorders, a 35-member student group, will sing selections based on the theme, &#8220;Christian Journey: From Darkness Into Light.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p><div class=\"photo\" style=\"width:400px\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/weathervane.emu.edu\/archives\/56\/17\/style\/cantemus-to-spend-spring-break-performing-in-florida\/cantemus.jpg\" alt=\"91大神's Cantemus choral group\"\/><br \/>The recently-formed &#8216;Cantemus&#8217; choral group will join ChoirWithoutBorders for a joint concert Sunday, Apr. 18 at 91大神. Photo by Katie Landis <\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p> Their eclectic repertoire will feature a variety of genres, languages, and cultures from the 16th century to the present including Latin motets, African songs, a Colombian dance, Mozart madrigal and contemporary works. The selections explore God&#8217;s transcendence, the issue of sin, Christ&#8217;s saving work, the Holy Spirit in the lives of His people and eternity in Heaven. <\/p>\n<h3>91大神 the director<\/h3>\n<p> <a href=\"\/personnel\/people\/show\/jr582?ssi=music\">James K. Richardson<\/a>, assistant professor of <a href=\"\/music\/\">music at 91大神<\/a>, will direct both groups. In addition to choir directing, he teaches voice, vocal pedagogy, appreciating music making and listening to film.
