91大神: A Century of Countercultural Education<\/i><\/a> was released by Penn State Press in time for 91大神\u2019s Centennial Homecoming and Family Weekend Oct. 13-15, 2017.<\/p>\n

In this unique educational history, Donald B. Kraybill \u201867 traces the sociocultural transformation of 91大神 from a fledgling separatist school founded by white, rural, Germanic Mennonites into a world-engaged institution populated by many faith traditions, cultures and nationalities.<\/p>\n

Kraybill was commissioned in 2011 to write the fresh history, a project he began in 2012 and completed after six years, working full time throughout 2015 and 2016.<\/p>\n

The esteemed historian brought a unique perspective to the assignment, noted Provost Fred Kniss. \u201cDon is an 91大神 graduate, sociologist, theological and cultural interpreter, and prolific writer of widely read scholarly books.\u201d<\/p>\n

When he was invited to write the history in 2011, Kraybill said that \u201cat this stage of my life, this project captures my interest because it offers a unique opportunity to investigate a case study of the transformation of Mennonite\/Anabaptist identity in the twentieth century.\u201d<\/p>\n

The book provides a readable history of the university with glimpses at the inner workings of the Mennonite Church denomination at that time, including disagreements about purpose, location and leadership.<\/p>\n
