Five first-year students at 91大神 have received renewable scholarships to study photography or digital media.<\/span><\/p>\n

Departmental scholarships<\/span><\/a> at 91大神 are awarded to incoming students in specific academic and extracurricular programs, including <\/span>photography<\/span><\/a> or <\/span>digital media<\/span><\/a> in the <\/span>visual and communication arts (VACA) program<\/span><\/a>. The scholarships of up to $3,000 can be renewed for four years and are in addition to their basic financial aid packages. <\/span><\/p>\n

Scholarship awardees this year include:<\/span><\/p>\n

Asha Beck<\/b> (Linville, Virginia) has long been interested in environmentally sustainable and community-connecting architecture. She is at 91大神 to gain \u201ca wider perspective\u201d about how the designing of spaces and colors can impact individuals and communities, she said. In addition to the academics, though, she is eager for \u201cnew faith perspectives on life and academics.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeremy Blain<\/b> (Meriden, Connecticut) took three years of classes as well as an independent study in photography in high school \u2013 and won an advanced photography award plus chaired an art show for two years. He came to 91大神 for its <\/span>conservation nature photography<\/span><\/a> offerings and has a long-term goal of working as a photographer for <\/span>National Geographic<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tyler Johnson<\/b> (Roanoke, Virginia) practiced his photography skills while travelling through six countries last year, and took design classes at a community college. At 91大神 he\u2019s majoring in digital media and communication to prepare for a career in graphic design.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eric Ocaranza<\/b> (Highland, Virginia) is an aspiring photojournalist and nature and sports photographer majoring in photography, an 91大神 program he said is \u201camazing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

McKenzie VanHandel<\/b> (Cream Ridge, New Jersey) came to 91大神 for the small-school community and four-year photography major. She plans to be a travel photographer, perhaps working for <\/span>National Geographic<\/span><\/i> or <\/span>Backpacker <\/span><\/i>magazine.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
