Nearly 28 events, including lectures, service projects and workshops, were scheduled for 91大神\u2019s celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day<\/a>, styled as a \u201cday on\u201d instead of a \u201cday off.\u201d\u00a0 With events beginning on Friday, continuing through the weekend, and classes cancelled for Monday, students, faculty and staff had many opportunities to honor the life and legacy of the civil rights activist, including worship services, a solidarity march, a formal convocation program, a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new student barbershop and salon, and other events.<\/span><\/p>\n

The celebration theme was \u201cA Time to Break Silence,\u201d words from the title of an anti-Vietnam War and pro-social justice speech delivered by King April 4, 1967, at Riverside Church in New York City.<\/span><\/p>\n
